Creative Education (CE) , 2017, DOI: 10.4236/ce.2017.89097
Abstract:
To understand the enactment of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) in higher education institution (HEI) and why very unequal ESD activity that mostly focused on campus greening rather than on pedagogic reform in HEI requires more than simply an examination of the ESD curriculum and pedagogy. To grasp why and how ESD is implemented in a HEI, the contexts in which it was created and implemented should be considered. Systems structures that include the context of the phenomena can show how the interaction between various factors gives rise to the outcomes that can be observed at the event level which is the enactment of ESD at the HEI. This paper presents a finding of the case study concerning systems structure of ESD conducted at one Malaysia university. This study is explanatory and may give insight to understand ESD enactment in HEI especially in Asian and developing country context. The findings from this study demonstrate that the agents’/ lecturer’s individual systems and the organisational/university system are co-evolving with their environment. The changes in the environment, such as the accelerating sustainability crisis and global influence, are perceived by the lecturers as stimulating ESD enactment in the university. The university’s response to the sustainability agenda involves temporality and selection. This explained the university’s delayed response to the sustainability agenda, until sustainability agenda gained attention globally after the Brundtland Report in 1987.Despite the forces to adapt to environmental changes, within a system there is resistance to change. In this study, it included: the lecturers’ perceived lack of sustainability awareness; sustainability acceptance influenced by disciplines; limited financial support from the university; a compartmentalised education system; bureaucratic tensions; and lacking of teaching skills among ESD educators.

Advances in Journalism and Communication (AJC) , 2014, DOI: 10.4236/ajc.2014.22007
Abstract: Digital technology, also known as new media technology, has become an influential tool in this era. This technology is no longer an option anymore but it is a necessity in many fields. As one of the areas that are inextricably linked with technology, the media industry including journalism, cannot escape from being impacted upon by any technological development and changes. In this era, media organizations and journalists have to confront an important challenge which impacted them strongly in the mass media, namely the advent of Internet journalism. With that in mind, this paper will discuss the changing nature of Malaysian newsrooms and identify the digital readiness among them in accordance with the needs of the digital media era. With a questionnaire designed to determine how news organizations try to meet the latest demands from the convergence of the newsroom as well as the readiness of the journalists in facing the challenges of the new technolo-gically driven newsrooms, the findings have provided insights into the leadership styles of Malay-sian media organizations and the readiness of Malaysian journalists in facing the current technol-ogical complexities, the retraining of employees, and other skills needed in the twenty first century media organizations.
Intelligent Dynamic Aging Approaches in Web Proxy Cache Replacement  [PDF]
Waleed Ali, Siti Mariyam Shamsuddin
Journal of Intelligent Learning Systems and Applications (JILSA) , 2015, DOI: 10.4236/jilsa.2015.74011
Abstract: One of commonly used approach to enhance the Web performance is Web proxy caching technique. In Web proxy caching, Least-Frequently-Used-Dynamic-Aging (LFU-DA) is one of the common proxy cache replacement methods, which is widely used in Web proxy cache management. LFU-DA accomplishes a superior byte hit ratio compared to other Web proxy cache replacement algorithms. However, LFU-DA may suffer in hit ratio measure. Therefore, in this paper, LFU-DA is enhanced using popular supervised machine learning techniques such as a support vector machine (SVM), a naive Bayes classifier (NB) and a decision tree (C4.5). SVM, NB and C4.5 are trained from Web proxy logs files and then intelligently incorporated with LFU-DA to form Intelligent Dynamic- Aging (DA) approaches. The simulation results revealed that the proposed intelligent Dynamic- Aging approaches considerably improved the performances in terms of hit and byte hit ratio of the conventional LFU-DA on a range of real datasets.

Abstract: English is the second language in Malaysia and it is a compulsory subject to be learnt in all schools. On average, Malaysian pupils spend at least 11 years learning the subject formally in classrooms before pursuing their education at the tertiary level or joining the workforce. However, from numerous reports, it is found that Malaysian pupils are still struggling to master the language thus affecting their performance in studies and depriving them of good job opportunities. Therefore, the Ministry of Education introduced the Highly Immersive Programme (HIP) which was implemented in all schools starting from 2016. It is a programme under the MBMMBI (Upholding the Malay Language and Strengthening Command of English) policy that will enhance pupils’ proficiency in English through increased exposure to the language in schools. This paper provides a literature review on the Highly Immersive Programme (HIP) speaking activities and its implementation in Malaysian schools. It includes reports on pupils’ lack of proficiency in the language, the implementation of the Highly Immersive Programme and previous studies carried out regarding its implementation.
Parasitoid and Parasitization of Plutella xylostella (L.) (Lepidoptera: Yponomeutidae) in South Sumatera
SITI HERLINDA
HAYATI Journal of Biosciences , 2005,
Abstract: Surveys from May 2003 to January 2004 in South Sumatera were conducted to determine parasitoid attacking Plutella xylostella (L.) and to estimate P. xylostella parasitization by the parasitoids. The eggs and the larvae of P. xylostella were collected from brassicaceous crops, i.e. mustard, Indian mustard, and cabbage. Six parasitoids found were Trichogrammatoidea cojuangcoi Nagaraja (Hymenoptera: Trichogrammatidae), Cotesia plutellae (Kurdj.) (Hymenoptera: Braconidae), Diadegma semiclausum Hellen (Hymenoptera: Ichneumonidae), Oomyzus sokolowskii (Kurdj.) (Hymenoptera: Eulophidae), Tetrastichus (Hymenoptera: Eulophidae), and a ceraphronid wasp (unidentified species). Trichogrammatoidea cojuangcoi parasitized P. xylostella eggs, however, the others parasitized the larvae except the ceraphronid wasp. In South Sumatera, the ceraphronid wasp was reported for the first time parasitizing D. semiclausum pupae, and its parasitization reached 6.2%. Oomyzus sokolowskii and Tetrastichus were found in this area for the first time, as well. In the highland, D. semiclausum was the most abundant compared to the others where its parasitization reached 79.2%. In the lowland P. xylostella larvae was mainly attacked by C. plutellae with the parasitization reaching 64.9%. In the dry and rainy seasons, the parasitization was mainly exerted by T. cojuangcoi (77.0%) and D. semiclausum (79.2%).
Enhanced Soil Chemical Properties and Rice Yield in Acid Sulphate Soil by Application of Rice Straw

Jurnal Tanah Tropika , 2012,
Abstract: Swampland development such as acid sulphate soil for agricultural cultivation has various problem, including highsoil acidity, fluctuated and unpredictable water flooding and the presence of toxic elements such as Fe whichresulting in low crop yields. The research was conducted at the experimental station Belandean, Barito Kualaregency in dry season 2007. The objective of research was to study the effect of rice straw on the dynamic of soilpH, the concentration of iron and sulphate and yield on tidal land acid sulphate soil at two different water inletchannel. This research was designed in RCBD (Randomized Completely Block Design) with five treatments (0, 2.5,5.0, 7.5 and 10 Mg ha-1) and four replications. Dolomite as much as 1 Mg ha-1 was also applied. This research wasdivided into two sub-units experiment i.e. two conditions of different water inlet channel. The first water channelswere placed with limestone and the second inlet was planted with Eleocharis dulcis. The results showed that (i) ricestraw application did not affect the dynamic of soil pH, concentration of iron and sulphate, and (ii) the highest yieldwas obtained with 7.5 Mg ha-1 of rice straw.
The alternative choices of masticatory customs by local people in Wasur National Park, Merauke, Papua
SITI SUSIARTI
Biodiversitas , 2005,
Abstract: The flora diversity and the interesting customs in East Indonesia, particularly in Papua, have not been explored intensively. This study encountered the relationship between traditional customs and usage of plant species by the local people in Wasur National Park Area, Merauke sub-district, Merauke district. One of them was masticatory. It has been well known by Indonesians in most parts of Indonesia, including societies in Wasur National Park. The major societies live in Wasur National Park are Kanum, Morori and Marind. Besides gambir (Uncaria gambir Roxburgh) and sirih (Piper betle L.), the young fruit of betel nut (Areca catechu L.) is usually consumed it as masticatory materials, by man and women. Several plant species, usually used alternative choices by Kanum, Morori and Marind were openg (Exocarpus latifolius R.Br.; Santalaceae), tawal (Celastraceae), sambiwal (Erythroxylum ecarinatum Burck; Erythroxylaceae), ntuo (Cryptocaria nitida R.A.Philippi; Lauraceae) and agya (Endiandra montana C.T. White; Lauraceae).
